Malala Day

We’re celebrating Malala Day by honoring Malala Yousafzai and her effort to support women and girl’s education globally.

Malala was born in Pakistan in 1997 and after the Taliban took over her city and banned girls from attending school, she wrote about living under Taliban rule and she and her father advocated for the right for girls to attend school.

The Taliban responded by sending gunmen that shot Malala in the head. She was just 15 at the time, but thankfully she survived and then attended school in England.

She continued to fight for women’s empowerment and education globally, and at the age of 17, Malala became the youngest recipient ever to receive a Nobel Peace Prize.

With her father, she co-founded the Malala Fund to champion every girl’s right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education, which is super important when you think about the fact that over 130 million girls today are out of school.
